Mandatory Activities of KVK

“Transfer of Technology” to the framers in order to increase their socio-economic status is a major objective of the KVK. Before implementation of activities, KVK has continuously given major thrust on assessment of POIN (Problems, Opportunities, Issues and Needs) of the farming community. Prior to finalization of annual action plan, KVK analyzes the gap in adoption of technologies. The annual report of Agro Ecological Situation (AES) of the district is the basis while selecting the villages. Similarly, before conducting the activities, a benchmark survey is also conducted to record the socio-economic conditions of the villages. Identification of the beneficiaries for training, demonstration, OFT(On Farm Testing) and other extension activities are conducted amongst the groups of pre identified farmers’ This helps to get a positive response from the farming community.

The Mandates and Objectives of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) are as follows-

Mandates:

Objectives -

In order to achieve the above mandates, the following broad objectives would help KVK to develop their specific objectives:

On Farm Testing (OFT) Conducted

The main objective of OFT programs is to provide technology transfer on location specific problems to sustain the agriculture. This is done by testing a released technology under the real farm situations with the participation of farmers. Normally, OFTs are conducted for fine tuning of the technology under various farming situations for understanding its suitability in the farmer’s field. The real problems faced by the farmers are given back to the research team for further improvement and refinement. This programs ensures the reach of new and suitable technology to the farmers.

Following are the OFTs conducted by MGM KVK in the various adopted villages.

Sugarcane is the main cash crop after cotton in adopted villages. As the organic matter content in soil is very low which results in low fertility. Burning of the trash after harvesting of sugarcane reduces the soil fertility instead it needs to be dumped in the soil to increase the nutrients of the soil. Hence, this OFT was planned to increase the organic carbon and fertility of soil by recycling of trash by In-situ sugarcane trash management.

8

To study the effect of potassium application in Bengal gram in rainfed situation

Bengalgram is one of the main pulse crop. Farmers use only nitrogen and phosphorus to the crop. As potassium is very important nutrient to develop water stress conditions and disease resistance in crop. Also Potassium helps in flowering and setting of pods in crop. Hence, OFT was planned to demonstrate the effect potassium application in Bengal gram in rainfed situation.

9

Effect of Nitrobenzene on flowering in Pomegranate

Nitrobenzene is recommended by NRC pomegranate, Solapur for improving and retention of female flowers in pomegranate. It increases no. of female flowers and fruit set thereby increasing yield by retaining more no. of female flowers. . Hence, OFT was planned to demonstrate the effect of Nitrobenzene on flowering in Pomegranate.

10

Use of broad spectrum dewormer to overcome mortality in calves

Worm load is a measure cause behind calf mortality and it is mostly neglected by the farmers. Hence it is conducted to demonstrate the use of broad spectrum dewormer

11

Use of long acting inj. exnrofloxacin to cure pneumonia in kids

Pneumonia is the measure cause of mortality in Goats and Kids, regular 3 days antibiotic therapy can save the life of kids, adopting regular antibiotic therapy is difficult at field level. Hence 1 day long acting exnrofloxacin to cure pneumonia in kids is planned.
